HP Enterprise Software

This article discusses HP’s foray into Enterprise Software alongside established providers like Oracle, IBM and SAP. Its Business Service Management (BSM) technology includes Application Performance Management, Network Management and Systems Management on its real-time service model (RTSM) for traditional, mobile, virtual and cloud environments. The company is for the third time attempting to enter the market of enterprise software that leverages agile development, virtualization, cloud and Software as a Service (SaaS). While the other major players in the field are increasingly offering services to manage structured data residing in their databases, HP is set to move towards providing management services aligned with the IT infrastructure that can address management issues in terms of data analytics of both structured and unstructured data.

Unstructured data in the form of social media interactions, etc. can be taken and interpreted using high-end algorithms in business intelligence technology, which helps gain greater insights into the meanings, sentiments, and relationships hidden in the information which is otherwise not possible using traditionally available business intelligence tools. HP’s BSM 9 is a combination of such new generation intelligent service that is yet to gain a wide market as it still needs popular end-user acceptance. HP’s strategic move to acquire Vertica and Autonomy which are geared up for Big Data analysis, puts the company one step ahead in its attempt to focus on software and services and further spinning of its hardware PC business.
